Decided to do a fun challenge run with Aerith using the New Threat mod version 2.0, on type B mode.

- No Aerith until the next battle, but this one deserves a mention. -


First, (well technically second) boss battle is already quite dangerous. Instead of Air Buster, you have to face off against seven Soldier 3rds in two waves. Not too bad when you're working with a full party, but when you're alone, it's a different story.


We have to heal quite a lot so in order to get some extra damage in, we use both the Counter Attack materia as well as Cloud's Innate Ability, which triggers randomly when you defend; after being attacked, you either you get a 2x Cut, a 4x Cut attack or a Deathblow counterattack. First, we use a Speed Drink for Haste status, so we can get in as many turns as possible. The starts of each wave are the most dangerous parts of this fight because of back attack damage. Once you lower their numbers, it gets a bit more managable. Limit Breaks also help a lot, too.


The Soldier 3rds also have "limits"; so we want to make sure that Cloud is above 300 HP becuase their limit does a lot of damage. They can also use spells like Ice and Sleepel. Ice isn't much to worry about, but Sleepel can be dangerous if it hits at a bad time, like when you're below half HP. Sleepel can easily end your game if you're especially caught by it at the beginning of a wave and they decide to use consecutive Ice spells.
