Final Fantasy [GBA] Playthrough #07, Nerrick's Canal; To Melmond: Decaying Earth
17This is video #07 in my playthrough of Final Fantasy on the Nintendo GameBoy Advance. This game is part of the Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls compilation.

Previously, the party defeated the dark elf Astos, woke up the Elf Prince, and acquired the Mystic Key. They acquired treasures from the Elven Castle and the Marsh Cave. Now, they will continue their treasure hunt and then move on to the next town.
The party revisits the Western Keep (time 1:45). In the treasure chamber, the chests contain a Power Staff, a Falchion, and Steel Gloves (time 2:06). Note that there are fixed encounters in front of the chests, but not to the sides.
They return to Elfheim (time 3:35). Rosa fills out her Level 4 white magic with Vox.
The party sails north and revisits the Chaos Shrine north of Cornelia (time 5:29).
Just inside the southeast room, there is a fixed encounter with Gargoyles (time 6:05). The chest contains a Rune Blade.
Just inside the northeast room, there is another fixed Gargoyle encounter (time 8:03). The chests within contain a Werebuster and a Gold Needle. If you go for both chests, you will trigger the fixed encounter twice.
The party returns to Cornelia Castle (time 11:06). The treasure rooms are in the northeast. The eastern room contains a Mythril Knife, a Saber, and a Cottage. The western room contains Iron Armor, a Tent, and the Nitro Powder key item. Yes! Maybe now they can help Nerrick blast that canal open.
After a rest stop in Cornelia, they sail northwest. They head into Mount Duergar (time 14:14). They deliver the Nitro Powder to Nerrick in the south (time 14:30). After he "bluiters" the rock, a canal is formed. New frontiers await!
The party claims the treasures in Mount Duergar's treasure room (time 16:25). There are several: a Tent, a Great Helm, a Wyrmkiller, an Ether, a Potion, a Mythril Mail, 575 gil, and a Cottage. Not a bad haul.
Returning to the ship, the party sails through the new canal. Just past it, they find the entrance to the Lifespring Grotto (time 19:04). The entrance is sealed.
After docking a short distance to the west, the party finds the town of Melmond (time 19:47). Welcome to ground zero for the ruination of the earth. There is all kinds of interesting info here, from rock-eating giants to levitating stones and ancient civilizations. The Earth Crystal must regain its glow before the area recovers. Apparently, the vampire in the Cavern of Earth is responsible. Time to go vampire-hunting!
The magic shops sell Level 5 spells. Unfortunately, my party's level is too low to get them just yet. The Longsword is not much of an improvement over the weapons the party has found. The armor shop offers the Knight's Armor and Silver Armlet. The party gets a Silver Armlet for Yang.
Next time, the party will head south to the Cavern of Earth to deal with this Vampire that is spreading decay.
