This is video #11 in my playthrough of Final Fantasy on the Nintendo GameBoy Advance. This game is part of the Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls compilation.

Previously, in the Cavern of Ice, the party acquired the Levistone. Now, they will use to to acquire an even better vehicle.

Leaving the Cavern of Ice behind, they canoe down the river. At the mouth of the river, they board the ship (time 1:51).

South of Crescent Lake, they leave their ship at the southern outlet of a river east of a desert (time 2:06). They have reached the Ryukahn Desert. A cutscene plays as they enter the desert itself. When they use the Levistone, an airship emerges from underground! The Airship is now available for their use.

The party boards their new airship (time 3:20). Back at Crescent Lake, they pick up new spells. Rosa acquires the Level 6 white magic spells Protera and Invisira. Sadly, she cannot get Exit yet. I wouldn't use up a slot for Stona when we can buy Gold Needles. As for Rydia, she picks up the Level 6 black magic Thundaga, Quake, and Stun.

The party boards the airship again (time 4:08). The world is now their oyster, but they can only land in green, grassy areas. Many places are deliberately designed with long walks. I'm glad this fell out of practice in later games.

They now check out the Dragon Caves, located on the Cardian Islands between the northern continents. They begin with the eastern cave located north of the Chaos Shrine (time 5:00). The eastern room has chests containing 2,000 gil, 1,455 gil, and 2,750 gil. The southwestern room has a helpful dragon, as well as chests containing an X-Potion, 9,500 gil, 1,520 gil, and 2,750 gil.

They move on to the next cave to the northwest (time 6:14). There is just a chatty dragon here.

On the marshy island to the west, the southeast cave leads to the Hellfire Chasm entrance (time 6:39). The entrance to this challenge dungeon is also sealed off.

The northwest cave on this island leads to another of the Dragon Caves (time 7:20). There are chests with a Cottage, 500 gil, and an Elixir. There are also more talkative dragons.

On the forested island to the north, the party checks the southeast of the Dragon Caves (time 9:18). It leads to the throne room of Bahamut, the Dragon King. He instructs the party to return with a token of their courage. Well, all right, then.

The party then checks the Dragon Caves entrance to the northwest (time 10:25). One of the dragons gives a hint that the party needs to go northeast to the Citadel of Trials. Another dragon indicates that the token of courage may have a strange appearance. How correct that is!

The last Dragon Caves entrance is on the western island (time 11:23). In the northern room, a chest contains a Tent. In the southern room, chests contain a Dry Ether and a Gold Needle.

The party returns to the airship (time 12:13). In the northeast of the world, they find a town encircled by mountains. This is the town of Gaia. There is information about all manner of things on this continent. Apparently, a faerie was living here, but she has disappeared. A piratey fellow in the northwest admits that he abducted her and sold her to a Caravan. Sounds like the party had better find her.

The armor shop sells Protect Rings. Whatever you do, buy a full set! These rings provide resistance to instant death. They don't provide total immunity, but they are a big help.

The southeast spell shops each sell two Level 7 spells. Both white magic spells, Curaja and Diaja, are worth picking up when possible. The black magic spell Blizzaga is the best bet.

Also, magic shops to the north of the inn each sell three of four Level 8 spells. There must be other magic shops out there somewhere.

Leaving Gaia, the party boards their airship (time 17:08). The Citadel of Trials is located to the west, but the only place to land the airship is on a peninsula to the northwest. From there, it is a bit of a walk to the citadel's entrance. Alternatively, they could park the ship at the nearby river, but that will take even longer. Be sure to bring Cabins or Cottages to rest outside before going in.

Along the way, the party reaches Level 27 (time 18:10).

Next time, the party will check out the Citadel of Trials.
