Final Fantasy III NES - Part 14: Divide & Conquer
Part 14/22 in my Final Fantasy III - NES walkthrough.
This dungeon is very long, very repetitive and contains a heck of a lot of split paths. Good training in here, and some pretty good treasures too as well as another important item.
Head ino the cave at the end of the winding mountain path. It's similar to the town where you got equipment for your Mystic Knight in that the enemies split and a lot of the normal passages are hidden. The treasures are similarly off course along these passages. The squares with black on them indicate passages. When you see an indent when travelling south head into it and along the various split paths. Like the other dungeon we've been in before, the encounter rate is pretty high. You can avoid the battles if you wish, but fighting the majorities of the battles in the dungeons as you've probably noticed by now, means you don't tend to need grinding at any point outside of them.
In the room with several black spots along the south wall, head into the second from west and then south east most in the next room. The next few passageways will lead to areas visible on the screen. When you come up to loads of black squares along the east side of a wall, the south most one will lead to a treasure. A few more rooms and you'll finally be at the objective of this dungeon, the Earth Fang.
Fans of Final Fantasy XIII will recognise the name of the boss here from Vanille's Eidolon. Hecatoncheir can do some decent damage here too, but that's about it, he's not exactly Bahamut. Use God's Wine on your Knight nevertheless, and Quake with your Black Mage. He should go down in a couple of turns. Leave and heal up on the Invincible.
If you've been watching this for fun, it's probably been a boring part, but at the same time very helpful to those who don't know how to navigate this long dungeon.
