Last time, we did a little 'Cyanseption' and went into the Dreamscape inside Cyan's mind. A monster named Wrexsoul was feeding on Cyan's agony over losing his family. It's definitely one of the more annoying boss fights in the game, but we got through it ok. Now, as we plot the endgame, we'll tackle what is perhaps the hardest dungeon we have left before Kefka's Tower, the Phoenix Cave!

CHAPTER 21 - PHOENIX CAVE

So I've been neglecting a large swath of characters in my party selection and haven't done much off-screen grinding. It's about to bite me in the butt here, as this dungeon requires two parties to traverse the Phoenix Cave. Don't blame me though, this is the second time I've played this game in a year! So it's definitely hard to not coast a bit and rest on my laurels. Not to worry though, the stragglers will catch up quickly in this area. But don't be afraid to run away if a regular monster battle gives you trouble. There are some tough monsters here!

Phoenixes are typically associated with Fire, so not surprisingly, most of the monsters here are weak against Ice. The only two which are not are: Clymenus and Necromancer. Both are weak against Holy, so it might be worth it bring someone who can wield the Holy Rod (not a euphemism), or Holy if you've learned it already. There's no mandatory boss in this area, however you can fight the Red Dragon now, if you really want to. I prefer to knockout six dragons at once and then pick off the other two in Kefka's Tower.

All the treasure chests you'll come across, except three, are all empty. Plundered by Locke, no doubt. These three treasure chests contain the Wing Edge, Ribbon and Dragon Horn. The Ribbon is definitely worth the trouble, but it's up to you grab'em all. You'll find Locke at the end. He'll have just found the Phoenix magicite and will proceed to head to Kohlingen and use it on Rachel. Unfortunately for Locke, it doesn't turn out too well, but we'll still get the Phoenix magicite. Afterwards, Locke will share all the treasures he found in the cave. Score!

We're definitely going to need to learn 'Reraise' as soon as possible, to be able to pass Cultist Tower. But now, it's time to take a break!
