Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster - Ch. 22 - Narshe & Triangle Island
Last time, we took on one of the hardest dungeons in the World of Ruin, the Phoenix Cave. There, we were finally reunited with our favorite thie... err, Treasure Hunter, Locke! Locke found the Phoenix magicite, which brings people back to life. However, it's deep cracks prevented it from working properly. He was unable to save his long lost love, Rachel. However, as a parting gift, Rachel fixes the all-important Phoenix magicite and gives it to him before departing once again. What's gonna happen now?!?
CHAPTER 22 - NARSHE & TRIANGLE ISLAND
So now that we have Locke, it's time to finally return to Narshe, the town where it all started. As you enter, you'll be approached by Lone Wolf, who will inform you that the whole town is deserted and everything's locked up. Only a treasure hunter will be able to open any of the doors. Thankfully we just got Locke back, so we'll bring him along. As you walk around Narshe, there are monsters in town now. But nothing poses too much of a challenge here.
There's really only two places in town that you'll want to check out: the Weapon Shop and the house located on the left-side of the central path to the mines. In the Weapon Shop, the owner will present you with the Ragnarok magicite. You'll be given a choice: keep it as is, or turn it into a weapon. I like to keep it simple and just go with the magicite.
In the other house, you'll find an old bed-ridden guy who will give you the Cursed Shield. The person equipped with this will be inflicted with numerous bad status ailments. After successfully completing 256 battles, it will turn into the 'Paladin Shield', which not only has good stats, but also nullifies most status ailments. It also teaches the wielder 'Ultima', so there's a backup plan in case you choose the Ragnarok sword (albeit a time consuming backup).
Now it's time to go get Mog. He'll be in the part of the mines where all the moogles were located. He'll be completely alone though. After speaking to him, make sure to check the spot where he was standing, to collect 'Molulu's Charm'. This relic is a real game-changer, as it will eliminate all random battles. Finally, you'll be able to walk freely without getting into a battle every couple of steps. It's a double-edge sword though, as no battles means no Exp, Gil or AP. Mog will also tell you about a Yeti he wants to recruit. It lives somewhere in the mines. We'll table that for the time being.
Now, let's go pay a visit to the Esper that started this whole game. It's still located in the same spot as before, when Terra went berserk and flew off to Zozo. On the way there, you can fight the Ice Dragon if you wish. Valigarmanda has 30,000 HP and is very easy to beat. As you can probably imagine, it's weak against Fire. So just pummel it with Fira or whatnot and it should go down in a couple turns. After you beat it, the cliff will partially collapse. If you inspect the collapsed spot, it will ask if you want to hop down there. This is where our Yeti friend is located.
In this area, there's a monster-in-a-box containing the Tonberries. If you beat these guys, you'll get the Minerva Bustier, which is one of the best armors for Celes or Terra. These guys were giving me a tough time, so I skipped them. There's only one logical way to go. When you're in the room with two switches, hit the second one and you'll fall into the yeti's chambers. There's a bone carving in the center of the room, which contains the Midgardsormr magicite. Removing it will trigger the fight against the yeti.
Umaro the Yeti only has 17,000 HP. He's weak against Fire and Poison. Using Bio will help move the battle along quicker, as the poison status will do heavy damage. Umaro will join and head to the airship. Teleport out.
The last thing I want to do is head over to Triangle Island. There's a guy in Thamasa who tells you about the Zone Eater, a monster which will inhale members of your party. When you encounter it, just sit back and let it inhale your whole party. You'll be taken to a special dungeon inside the Zone Eater's belly. With Molulu's Charm, this area is a breeze. Just make sure to grab all the treasures, as there's really no reason to ever return here.
At the end of the path, you'll find Gogo the Mimic, the final playable character. I dunno how long he's been living there, but he says that no one has come to visit him in a very long time... Which means someone has come to visit him, just not recently. Weird. Anyway, teleport out when you're done talking and that's that. Our roster is complete. We have about three more scenarios and then some side stuff. Then it'll be time to pay Kefka a visit.
