Mega Man X - (Part 5) - Final Boss & Ending
Here we go, folks! We've beaten all the former Maverick Hunters that have gone rogue. We've found all the Heart Tanks. We've found all the Sub Tanks. We've gotten all the equipment upgrades. Lastly, we got the cool but fairly useless 'Hadouken' upgrade.
To normal Reploids, the Hadouken results in an 'instant-kill' move. However, with the bosses we've encountered since getting the upgrade, it does not seem to have this effect. So it's really downgraded to a bit of a novelty. Plus you need to be a full power in order to use this, which certainly makes things more difficult.
So on top of getting all that, we've also managed to make our way through the first three stages of Sigma's fortress. Now there is only one left...
PART 5 - FINAL BOSS & ENDING
Ok! This level consist of just a vertical access shaft. When you reach the top, you'll be locked into the three-part final boss fight. About a third of the way up, you'll see a hole on the right side. If you're at or near level with this hole, it should generate an endless supply of weak Reploids. You can use these to refuel yourself or your weapons if needed. About two-thirds of the way up, you'll see a second hole on the left side that serves the same purpose.
When you reach the top, Sigma appears! He's standing there with his pet, 'Velguarder' beside him. After some brief dialogue, he will sic his pet on you.
FIGHT 1 - VELGUARDER
According to the guide I was using, Velguarder's primary weakness is the Mega Buster. It listed 'Shotgun Ice' as a secondary weakness, but now as I do more research, it seems it's actually weaker against Shotgun Ice. But if you've got the Mega Buster upgraded, a fully charged shot should be almost just as good.
Velguarder has four moves. While standing on the ground, he can simply charge at you. Then there's his triangle kick move, in which he'll jump quickly from one wall to the other and back (in the shape of a triangle, I guess).
Additionally, he has two energy attacks. One where he shoots fire in a downward arc that then curves upward. And the other, where he shoots balls of electricity in an upward arc before curving downward. He's not that hard.
FIGHT 2 - SIGMA (1ST FORM)
When you beat Velguarder, Sigma returns and challenges you in his normal form, wielding a beam saber. He only has three attacks in this form and two should look fairly familiar.
First, he can charge at you with the beam saber. Secondly, he can use a variation of Velguarder's triangle kick move to basically do the same thing. Lastly, he can shoot five projectiles from his forehead, aiming up at X.
His weakness in this form is 'Electric Spark'.
FIGHT 3 - WOLF SIGMA (2ND FORM)
Sigma's body is destroyed when you beat his first form. His head remains, but it's attached to a large Reploid in the form of a wolf, that takes up the whole room.
Wolf Sigma has two 'paws' that rise up and down, while also occasionally darting at you. The underside has 'claws' that can hurt you, but you can stand on top of them.
Wolf Sigma has four attacks. First it will attempt to 'punch' you with one of its floating hands. Secondly, the hands will emit an electric shock that will damage you if you're standing underneath or on top.
Additionally, Wolf Sigma will fire nine lightning balls from its mouth across the room. Lastly, it will can also use a flamethrower move to shoot flames from its mouth.
His weakness in this form is 'Rolling Shield'.
The only spot that's vulnerable is the original Sigma head. So you'll need to stand on top of the floating hands in order to reach it. If you stay on them too long, you'll be hit by electric shock emitted by the hands. When he's destroyed, that's it! Sit back and enjoy the ending.
Congratulations! You just beat 'Mega Man X' for 'Super Nintendo'!
