A run I started recently. Ever since I first toyed around with powersaves in Fates, I've been wondering if they could be used as basis for a fun challenge run. The answer as it turns out is "yes".

The inspiration behind this challenge is a similar run I did in Final Fantasy Tactics a couple years ago ( https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbSv8zSDR9c0e87aLa76GTNS4ISZz81CT ). The idea of that run was that characters would be obliged to reclass (or rather, using an online RNG I would randomly generate a class for them) and spend the next mandatory battle in that class. The extra rule there was keeping everybody at lv. 1 using a cheat, but the challenge was still easy, and Life Drain made short work of all the endgame bosses.

The run is played on Conquest path (the best Fates game), on Lunatic Classic difficulty (most challenging difficulty + fixed level-ups so that resetting for better levels is impossible). I chose Male MU as my Corrin because I thought Jakob would be too broken earlygame with most jobs being physical and him doing too well in a physical promoted class (as shown by his performance as GK and Paladin in a normal game).

The ruleset of this run is as follows:

- Random Reclass
Before every storyline battle, reclass all active characters in the party into a class generated randomly by Online RNG ( https://www.random.org/integers/ ). Characters can access Hoshido and Nohr jobs alike. Unpromoted units can reclass into any unpromoted class (excluding special classes, besides characters like Azura and unpromoted Mozu who can also randomly get their special class) or DLC class accessible to their gender, while promoted units can get any promoted or DLC class. This means unpromoted units can get any one job out of 17 classes + 4 (f) / 6 (m) DLC classes + 0/1 special classes. Promoted units, like Felicia here, get access to 28 promoted jobs + 4 (f) / 6 (m) DLC classes + 0/1 special classes.

One question that immediately arises, will I ever find myself in a situation where beating a chapter is impossible, e.g. if the RNG gives me all Troubadours and no usable combat units, or a party that's too weak to face the next chapter's Conquest Lunatic experience? Because of this concern, the low-turn direction, present in all my runs on this channel since like 5 years ago, is rejected - I'm not interested in turn count at all here. What this means in practice is that I'll go slower in maps, often routing chapters that needn't really be routed so that I don't find myself with a party that's completely unusable, even if I'm not ever protected from such an outcome - what can be done about a Sorcerer Charlotte for example, whether she is lv. 1 or lv. 20? Well, that's right, she could pair up with a capable magic user, if one exists.

- Mandatory Battles Only
Simple as that, we play only the necessary storyline battles as well as Mozu's recruitment chapter. If S-rank support is ever reached, children chapters may not be visited, in order to avoid overlevelling and trivialising maingame chapters.

- No Captured Units / Bond Units / Einherjar
This serves to force us to rely on our party alone.

- No Battle/Visitor Rewards / Breakable Online Features / DLC
The former include stuff like raider weaponry, which makes having E-rank in a weapon suddenly no longer such a disadvantage. Online can be used to get materials for cooking and forging (will need to forge tons of bronzes) but nothing else (like skill purchase). DLC cannot be done for experience/extra items (Point-Blank on all bow units would make them too good for example).

Chapter 7 is where my challenge officially starts, after I chose Branch of Fate and opted for a +lck/-spd Cavalier MU (boon/bane chosen to make him as weak as possible). The file was played with FeMU/Jakob previously so Felicia starts as a lv. 1 Maid.

I roll the dice and get:
Corrin 18/24 - Dread Fighter
Felicia 18/32 - General

Really good actually - I was really scared I'd get something bad for this one map. Though Corrin is stupidly slow, DF's high promoted bases make it easy for him to double all unpaired Faceless with a Spd Tonic. Felicia gets some good raw physical stats for combat, and her class lets her hopefully level some defence (she only gets one proc in 3 levels). As you can see, Felicia levelling up doesn't give her any Knight skills - this is because Knight isn't one of her class sets. If she were to S-rank Benny on the other hand, she would be able to learn Knight skills as well.
