Pokemon Omega Ruby - 0 Exp Part 17: Brendan (postgame)
The mandatory last battle with your rival (who was forced on you a bit more than in vanilla). Some might say it's part of the maingame, but what's clear to me is that it's so comparable to the AZ battle after the champion fight in X/Y. Brandan's team is more competent and plentiful though, so I'd say this one is worth the upload. After all, it's the first time he pulls out a mega evolution for his starter.

You can't change anything about the party since last battle, which includes held battles that may have been lost in the previous fight. For example, Starmie starts the battle barenaked since it used up the Sitrus Berry in the fight against Steven. That's probably why a lot of switching takes place.
Because you're also forced to save the game after beating Steven, this battle was mostly improvised as I'd theorymon'd prior to doing it but had no clue how the battle would unfold - when it's over, your game is automatically saved again.
Mawile switches into Swellow's U-Turn (might have used Volt Switch instead but I wasn't sure if I would outspeed), and Magcargo comes out. Can't do much against it so I switch Starmie into Lava Plume; predictable outcome.
I don't have any ground-type for Raichu, so Mega Medicham takes care of him with a HJK OHKO. He gets paralysed in the process too, which subsequently means I won't be leaving him in any other matchup (Ice Punch could've been good for Mega Sceptile).
Sucker Punch helps Mawile prevail in the fight against Swellow, and Electrode fails to take on Wailord one-on-one due to the Light Screen Raichu had put up; luckily, Wailord is sufficiently weakened to fall to anything afterwards (Starmie didn't have T-bolt for the Steven battle). Fortunately for us, no potions are used in this battle.
Mega Sceptile is the last challenge, this time having a very respectful movepool featuring Leaf Blade and Dual Chop + some coverage (actually, Brendan's whole team has good movesets, but it's lower-levelled and easier to take care of than Steven's party of six). There's not much it can do to Gyarados, and Expert Belt Ice Fang OHKOs because M-Sceptile's defence still isn't too hot.
Well, they did succeed in making him about as competitive as Wally this time around I guess? No Roselias or Delcatties on this team.
