Pokemon Omega Ruby - 0 Exp Part 12: Maxie (final battle)
Stupid Maxie with his stupid evil laughs.
The underwhelming final confrontation with Maxie. His access to mega evolution, which is neat since fewer trainers were able to utilise that against you in X/Y, does not salvage the disaster that is his team during our second fight.

Maxie's team is larger now, with Weezing introduced (AS's Archie uses Muk instead, so pick your poison... huh wait) but they've arguably grown weaker because the game developers didn't bother adding custom moves to Maxie's mons, so they just use the last 4 moves learnt by level-up, which means Mightyena relies on Take Down for its offence whilst Mega Camerupt's scariest move is its Rock Slide. Of course, we would've OHKO'd each either way, but you'd like them to at least threaten at least -some- teams. Mightyena not having Intimidate is also a sign of the same tendency, as its slayers are mainly physical fighters and bugs.
So what I end up worrying about here is killing everything in one hit, the same thing I did with Diantha in the XY challenge.
Heracross (no longer a version exclusive) takes care of Mightyena, OHKOing with Life Orb-boosted Brick Break (I've farmed about three of these from DexNav Absols and haven't regretted it - 30% extra damage regardless of property or effectiveness is hard to ignore), not using his chance to mega evolve just yet.
Instead, it's Gyarados mega evolving in the next matchup. Weezing may be a physical tank and Muk's counterpart in this way, but Mega Gyarados has such high physical attack (before the opposition nets itself a substantial level advantage over me that is) that it can OHKO with Earthquake off its raw stats alone, completely ignoring Levitate with the help of Mold Breaker. I made sure to get the best Gyarados I could, because its competent bases (even at lv. 40), access to a mega evolution and Intimidate will surely prove invaluable during the E4 portion of the game.
Crobat, switching in next, is the next challenge and probably the toughest mon on Maxie's team because it can strike hard with Acrobatics @ 110 BP. I use the dark horse Electrode, the highest-levelled electric in this challenge. Outspeeding Crobat, it paralyses the flying mammal to overkill it with a 150 BP Electro Ball. No kill like overkill...
I don't think I was playing around the idea of Archie being present, but it was my Sharpedo who took care of Mega Camerupt, though any decently fast water-type would've done the job. Archie must've been proud I guess!
Well, there's just one more badge remaining and we're ready for the final stretch of the game... okay, I guess there's a long process of farming mons with the right natures and IVs for the E4 first.
