Fire Emblem: Three Houses Playthrough 37 (Church Route): One With the Church
0After a shocking moment at the Holy Tomb, Byleth was given a tough choice that could affect the story, and unfortunately, he had to turn against Edelgard. As a result, he and the rest of the Black Eagles students, except for Hubert, have decided to remain on Byleth's side, and without our house leader, we will need to prepare for what we can to stop the Imperial Army.

If you are wondering why I am doing both Black Eagles routes side by side, I wanted to show both the default route and the alternate route. This one is the default route, which is known by fans as the Church Route, but it's not the official name, but I will call it the Church Route to tell apart from the other Black Eagles route. If you chose not to go with Edelgard in Chapter 11, you will be taken to this route by default. The first hour of the video is just a bunch of support conversations, and I decided to hold off on Hilda and Cyril's paralogue until Part 2, because it can be done around then.
Unfortunately, because Byleth has decided to turn against Edelgard, we no longer have her or Hubert on our side, but the nice thing is that Seteth, Catherine, and Cyril are recruited automatically on this chapter, and I believe Shamir automatically joins if you didn't recruit her before then. If you watched the 3 hour video, I explained what things you have to do when preparing for this route, which is using Hubert as little as possible, he is decent early on, but I recommend not using him after Chapter 5, and you might have noticed that I have been using Flayn in this playthrough, I will be using her in this run.
One other nice thing is that you can recruit Hilda on Black Eagles, but it can only happen on the Church Route, if you chose to side with Edelgard, you can't recruit Hilda otherwise.
You might notice something is up with Dimitri this month, if you play Blue Lions, you will understand what is up with him, because there is a cutscene after the battle, and if you've seen Dimitri's reaction in that cutscene, you will understand why.
This is the last month to recruit any units, and as I have explained, this is the only month to recruit Hilda on this route, I could go over the units that join you automatically. Starting with Seteth, he comes as a Wyvern Rider, and even though he does join late, he should be ready to fight, as there is one battle on this route where you are forced to use Seteth, even though he isn't really Edelgard's replacement, I like to think of him as that, because we no longer have the house leader, and Seteth does come at a respectable level and in a good class. I recommend making him a Brigand to get Death Blow on him, and as he has strengths in Sword, Axe, Lance, Authority, and Flying, his best class is Wyvern Lord, and he does get Swift Strikes at A Rank in Lance, so I recommend prioritizing on that, some other classes that might be worth going into is Archer for Hit +20, and if you want, you could work on Brawl to make him a War Master to get Quick Riposte. Seteth's best stats are HP, Strength, Dexterity, Speed, and Charm, and it is recommended to equip him with a Knowledge Gem so Seteth can master a bunch of classes, and so you can get Swift Strikes as quickly as possible. One thing I never went over in my other playthroughs is if you are playing on Classic Mode and Flayn has been defeated before this chapter, Seteth will never join you on Blue Lions or Golden Deer, but he does join on Black Eagles if you side with the church.
As for Cyril and Catherine, I don't recommend using Cyril on this route, he joins a bit too late compared to other routes, and he starts off really weak, and he misses out on what made him a good unit on other routes, and for Catherine, she can fill in for an extra team member if you haven't trained up many units, and she does come with Thunderbrand, but unlike the other routes, she isn't as good in this route in comparison, but she's not bad.
Then for Hilda, her late recruitment is a drawback to her, and her Authority bane holds her back, unless you are doing a New Game + playthrough, then you can get her Authority high enough, and she can make a good Fortress Knight or Wyvern Lord for possible classes.
I also show Byleth's A Support with Rhea in this video, this can be very tricky to get to without New Game +, because you aren't very likely to give gifts to Rhea, they are usually best given to students that you want to recruit, and the only time you can view the A Support with Rhea is from Chapter 11 to Chapter 12.
