Fire Lancer (Demo) - Light Mode ALL Clear - 3,01 Million
Fire Lancer is a new and upcoming shmup made by our very own Trap15.
It's a very fun aggressive speedkilling game in the vein of Dangun Feveron and Thunder Dragon 2.
It's also being developed for the Wonderswan.
The game has 3 difficulties; Light, Heavy and Real War.
What is cool is that every mode has a different scoring system, kinda like Mushi.
Light is your pointblanking mode. Heavy is all about medalling and Real War is semi-chaining.
The game has branching stages. In this demo you can either go to stage 2-B or 2-C. 2-C gives way more score so that's the stage I went for.
You select stages by being on either the left or right side of the screen at the end of the stage.
The game has a bunch of different ships and styles. For Light I found the Polaris to be one of the best because you can move the shot around and fix it in place if you hold focus.
Type C gives you more shotpower in exchange for a bigger hitbox and slower speed. But for speedkill scoring, power is pretty essential.
The secret ship Onigirun is probably better for Light but you unlock it pretty late.
Scoring in this game is all about speedkilling enemy waves to immediately spawn the next one.
There is also a max bomb bonus. Every time you accumulate 3 bombs or more through a way that does not involve dying, you get a big bonus. The bonus differs between each mode. For Light, Heavy and Real War it's 40k, 50k and 100k respectively.
Bombs help with speedkilling, but you also don't want to bomb too much because you lose out on the max bomb bonus. It's a tight balancing act.
There is also rank in this game and the rank determines the boss bonus, which is good to keep in mind. The boss bonus is also determined by how fast you destroy it.
Besides that there are also hidden fish throughout the stages and one hidden onigiri in every stage.
The onigiri gives you a full bomb and gives you more score if you pick it up after it starts dancing.
The specific Light Mode difference here are:
- There is a multiplier for how close you destroy enemies. The closer you destroy them, the higher the multiplier, to a max of x5.0.
- Bombs in this mode gradually fill up by destroying enemies.
- The boss bonus multiplier is determined by your average pointblank multiplier throughout the stage, times 10, to a max of x50.
- Another big difference is that there is no enemy collision on Light, which makes pointblanking a lot more smooth.
