When navigating towards an NDB with crosswind we will be blown off course. If we don't know the wind speed and angle we can't calculate the Wind Correction Angle. We use a technique called bracketing to stay on course. We make a heading correction of say 10 degrees as a first guess. If further correction is needed we add or subtract half of the previous step. This leads to steps of 10, 5, 2, 1 and any angle between 2 and 18 can be found in just a few steps. The goal is to keep the ADF needle still. When that is achieved we can bring ourselves back on the desired course.
