When flying inbound to an NDM (QDM), to keep track we correct our heading in the same direction as the ADF needle deflection, we fly TO the TIP. When flying outbound (QDR) this reverses, we correct AWAY from the TAIL. We could still look at the tip of the needle, which is at the bottom, and still fly TO the TIP. Tip left, correction left, tip right, correction right. When we intercept a QDR, an outbound course, we wait until the tail of the needle reaches the desired course.
