Flooded City Resouce Recovery Unit | Mind-Shattering & Body-Breaking Discoveries - NieR: Automata
We're moving the story along once again, and y;know.... considering that no one died nor did anything similarly horrific happen this time... this was still one of the heaviest moments I've had to play through so far. Seeing 9S panic and cry out in anguish as his memories were being messed with made me wanna cry, and the symbolism of him stabbing 2B repeatedly was even more unsettling, just showing how far gone 9S has become, how fractured his psyche is. Seeing how far 9S has really descended, and seeing what's happening to him... it's really hard, and it's only going to continue to worsen at this rate.
He's slowly becoming completely undone. It's so well-written, but it doesn't make it easier to witness :(
But, at least we didn't have to ACTUALLY fight 2B...
But I think the hardest blow that really made this part feel so heavy, was finding out that YoRHa back boxes are essentially just repurposed machine cores, and that both machines and YoRHa androids share similar AI. Sure I thought the general concept of androids and machines were similar to each other (especially with Adam and Eve being basically androids in structure), but I didn't know the specific similarities/connections extended THIS far. For 9S to find that out... it has to be like an even 10x stronger punch to the gut.
What's funny is, after the power died and I had to redo all those hacking mini games, I aced the ones I had trouble with the first time. I saved the recordings, but... eh, not worth it.
Moreover, I had a chuckle when Pod 042 was basically like "Something weird happened when I was with A2. The machines began... sharing date with each other. Here, I'll share the data on it with you!". Given that the pods are also basically machines, that just made me laugh xD
Also when Pod 153 opened with "... not sure what we should do, however.", it made her seem VERY human. That's not how they (or other machines) start conversations. It showed a human level of uncertainty and delivery of the sentiment. The do seem to be slowly acting more and more... I guess "individual". It's very interesting.
And man, that last line from Popola hit me pretty hard. On top of the powerful reference to how she was left to die alone in the first NieR, it's just sad that... she's not even telling 9S not to die. I think by now, they know they can't stop him. She just... pleaded for him to... not die alone...
If only she'd meant that in a "Let's hook up" context. If I had a girl like either of them, I could die happily at literally any point in my life x3
