Game Time Reviews (GTR) - Forgotten Ball Review (2016) | Indie Game Review!

Welcome back to GTR as Mark reviews an indie puzzle game for steam – Forgotten Ball!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Forgotten ball is a minimal puzzle based game where you have guide the ball round the world. What makes the game different from other puzzle games is it’s seamless, connected world and it’s pretty unique 3D and 90-degree gameplay. Now I don’t mean 3D as in the ball pops out of your screen (giggidy), I mean 3D as the world rotates 90 degrees whenever you turn a corner - Similar to Monument Valley.

Now in short, should you but this game? Well, as long as the price stays at £2.00, which is roughly $2 and 80 cents, yes, you should. And as of today, March 4th, it’s 15% off in the steam store, giving you no excuse. The amount of time you’ll spend playing this addicting game defiantly makes the money spent worth while.

So, as I mentioned above, Forgotten Ball has a pretty unique and interesting world rotation ability, which is not only fresh, but pretty fun to look at, and definitely takes puzzle games to a new level. There’s parts of the map which look like you’re at a dead end, but really – you’ve just got to take a risk and jump, which then rotates the world.

Not only have you got to try and navigate your way around the open map, but you’ve also got to avoid the red cubes and pillars along the way. Now, like all puzzle games, the challenges get progressively harder, but don’t worry – there are check points. The entire game is one big level, but like I said, the world is connected and is massive, so this 1 level may take you a bit of time.

Throughout the game you pick up different abilities. The first being a type of hover, antigravity ability or something – they don’t really have names. When you click X, you’re able to temporarily fly. Whilst it takes a bit of time to get use to the ability, you better learn it quick because a lot of the obstacles require you to use the ability. In terms of other controls, the only keys you’ll need from the start are the arrow keys for direction and the spacebar, and as I mentioned before, as you pick up abilities they’ll take up space on your keyboard.

Now the games GUI isn’t great, and there’s no easy way to access the menu, and with no instructions, you sort of have to figure the game as you go. But I’ll give you a handy tip – you have to press the C key on your keyboard to get up the pause menu, to see your stats, collectables and other info.
