An original rag by Marc Moore (me), 2022, with some parts based on Take Five by Dave Brubeck. As with a couple past rags, I found a digital recording was the easiest way to get a piano-roll-like recording true to the way I wanted it to sound. Links to sheet music and MIDI files below.
In playing around trying to figure out a melody for a different rag, I ended up with the middle and end section here with some tones that felt much jazzier than most of my compositions, and decided to instead try to play into the jazz-adjacency of what I'd stumbled upon. I suppose making a 4/4 time rag with bits inspired by a song where the entire distinguishing feature is its 5/4 time signature is a bit silly, but I like how this came out and think the end result ended up pretty unique anyway! #ragtime
