FreeCol is a GPL licensed free and open source 4X strategy game inspired by the classic Sid Meier's Colonization from 1994. As in that game, FreeCol is a strategic simulation of the colonization of the Americas starting in 1492 with the objective of the game being developing your nation until you can declare and win it's independence.

The game is still in active development, with the most recent version being 1.2.0 from July, 2024.
