HeXen II is the fantastic sequel to the classic HeXen: Beyond Heretic, developed by Raven Software and published by Activision in 1997 for Windows 95 and by MacPlay in 2002 for classic MacOS (8.6 and up) and MacOS X (10.1.4 and up). Developed with the Quake engine, the game was was famously meant to be titled Hecatomb: Beyond HeXen until Activision decided to release it as HeXen 2. The story sees the player fighting against the forces of the demonic Eidolon, the eldest and most powerful of the Serpent Riders.

An expansion pack for the game titled Portal of Praveus was released in 1998 for Windows 95 exclusively. Portal of Praveus adds a new single player campaign and a new player character class to the game. In this expansion the player takes on the role of the Demoness, who used to be a minion of Eidolon and is now fighting to stop the sorcerer Praveus from taking control of Eidolon's leaderless armies, lest she lose her independence again.

Both HeXen II and Portal of Praveus include an excellent atmospheric soundtrack composed by Kevin Schilder.
