From the Depths 2023 Campaign #9: "This is what it sounds like when robots cry."
In this episode, I am mopping up some leftover White Flayers territory, but mostly pursuing the war against the Twin Guard. I think my "allies" the Onyx Watch have mostly gone home and left me to do all the work, which also means I can gobble up all the territory and the resource nodes. So that works.
I think somewhat of a potential shortcoming of FtD Campaign mode is, it doesn't matter whether my craft are, on a material cost for destructive potential basis, notably better than the craft of the enemy. They probably generally are, but it doesn't matter. I have a giant fleet hurling APHE cannon ammo and very robust missiles at them in huge quantities, so unless they can marshal fleets of comparable size they are going to lose.
So what do they do? They send ONE craft to challenge me taking a map square, which causes me to move my very mobile (if very fuel-hungry) fleet of airships over to crush them like insects. They should never be doing that, they should decide on an assembly point somewhat near their front lines and just pile craft on that assembly point until they are able to move an entire fleet of craft over to assault me. It doesn't matter how excellent their craft are individually, if they send one at a time they are going to be destroyed. So that means that probably the further I go in the campaign, the less likely I ever am to be seriously challenged.
