Gaiares (GEN) Playthrough - All Clear - No Deaths
Playthrough of Gaiares for the sega genesis exclusively. This game is sort of a mix between Gradius and R- Type ( especially the bit like TOZ system present ingame) and its a very unique shoot em up by having very long cutscenes( and also by having a story in the game itself at all at the time). like the previous games, its notorious for its difficulty.
However Gaiares makes it more relentless by pretty much forcing you to play near perfectly as doing a recovery run is literally impossible in certain parts depending where you die. For instance if you die in the last boss of the boss rush stage( that resembles the Gunner Wall from Gradius and is 10 times harder then the final boss) you might as well hit the reset button as recovering from that is impossible as that boss has the largest health in the game alongside random patterns and no enemies with special weapons on his checkpoint( and no shield). Unlike most shoot em ups, bosses have no time over in this game and you must destroy then( the only boss who sorta has a time over is the Mermaid boss on stage 2 at her 2nd phase as if you take too long to kill her, she starts to home herself at you).
In this game you power up yourself and change weapons by latching the TOZ into enemies. Best weapons are the G-Beam( very powerful and it pierces), The H-Laser( pretty much the strongest weapon in the game but doesnt pierce so awesome for bosses), and the T-Missile( can be even stronger then H-Laser but you must never fully upgrade this shot as it will tank your fire rate).theres some weapons that can only be obtained by chance like the F-Formation and those weapons will only last until the stage ends and you go back to Normal shot, however these weapons are overpowered and will literally destroy every boss in the blink of a eye. Theres also a secret weapon called the T-Braster where you must fire the TOZ 6 times then latch on a enemy the 7th time to get it. Its good for trying to make a comeback but it still wont save you if you die in the Gunner Wall( homing shots were poorly programmed in this game and wont home in certain bosses and the Gunner Wall is one of then).
This game has 2 difficulty settings, Normal( which is the default and the one in this video) and Very hard. On Very Hard enemy patterns are different and more relentless and have faster projectile speed, every enemy, sub boss and bosses gain a small increase in health( the Gunner Wall health is 5x more compared to normal). I could never finish Very Hard without using ingame codes( i get stuck in the Gunner Wall) and theres some patterns of the stage 3 traps the you have to get hit to pass then as they arent tested properly on very hard( so if you have no shield you are screwed).
