Before emulators, who even knew what a save state was? Those who had their hands on the Game Action Replay for the NES did, and it was just as game breaking of a feature back then as it is now!

Unlike the Game Genie which requires you to enter in game-specific codes to cause a variety of in-game abnormalities to occur, such as giving yourself infinite lives or the ability to moon jump, the Game Action Replay is much more versatile as it allows you to cheat in almost any NES game right out of the box!

The save screens function allows for up to five save states to be created, which can then be loaded at a later point in time. The built-in battery even allows the save states to remain after a game has been powered off. Not only is this perfect for getting past difficult parts of games like Mega Man, Castlevania, or Ninja Gaiden where dying means being taken back to the beginning of a stage or world, but it's also perfect for games that don't have an included save or password feature like Super Mario Bros. 3, as you can play them in multiple chunks rather than one single long sitting!

The slow motion function allows the speed that a game is played at to be reduced anywhere from half speed, all of the way down to 1/5 of normal. This is an incredible feature for games like Tetris or 1943 where the action can become super fast paced!

So whether you're a collector, someone who's looking to get an edge in their games, or just a person who doesn't have the time to play entire NES game sin one sitting, the Game Action Replay is the perfect accessory for you! While not as popular as the Game Genie and not something that's gained a cult following by being reviews by the Angry Video Game Nerd, Scott the Woz, or JonTron, definitely don't pass up the change to own one should the opportunity ever present itself!
