While I had an NES as a kid and absolutely love the system, I also admired the Sega Master System from afar. My friend Kyle had one and I would frequently go over to his house and played it with him. Now that I am older, I have a modest Sega Master System collection that I absolutely love. There are games that I've picked up over the years that are definite amazing titles. So if you were to start a sega master system collection in 2024, what three games would I recommend as must own? Let's take a look.

Number 3:
R-type
One of the best shooters of its era, R-type on the Sega Master system looks so much better than anything else that the NES had going on at this point. I dare say it almost looks 16-bit! The sound is vastly superior than the NES, the gameplay is better, the graphics are better, and it's just an amazing game. it's also extremely challenging too for a shoot 'em up, but I absolutely love this game and I'm thrilled that I have it complete inbox my collection.

Number 2:
Double Dragon
One of the best beat-em ops in the arcades made its way to home consoles, but the NES version is not as great as most people remember. The Sega Master system version, however, is terrific. it does not suffer from any of the slowdown or buffering issues that the NES did, and it just overall performs and plays so much better. This is the definitive 8-bit version of Double Dragon to me and one you definitely need to have in your collection.

Number 1:
Wonder Boy
If you like Hudson's Adventure Island you will love Wonder Boy, it's basically the same game. But much like other games on this list, Wonder Boy looks and sounds better then Adventure Island, has amazing gameplay, and it just one of those fantastic platformers from this era. It is one of those games that pretty much anyone can pick up and play and have a good time and enjoy themselves. For these reasons, this is my number one pick if you are starting a Sega Master System collection.
