π Game Review - Surviving Mars π
A review (well, overview, really) for the city-building, survival/strategy sim, "Surviving Mars." This is a quick-ish rundown, as the game's not difficult to understand, it's consistent in its gameplay, and I only played it for a while.
Also, there's a small omission: I accidentally skipped over the exploration mechanic. That's literally just clicking squares to queue up regions, and then waiting for results. You can spot it briefly in the footage. But, since that mechanic shouldn't change whether or not someone likes the game overall, I decided not to bother re-recording for it. It's a minor detail in the scope of the game, and it is visually in there anyways.
****Technical notes:****
I used some music, which is not in the game, for the review. The non-game music is from the YouTube Audio Library:
00:00 Mission to Mars - Audio Hertz
02:48 Back To The Future - Ofshane
05:18 Cover - Patrick Patrikios
09:10 Symphony No. 5 - Beethoven
The only music from the game is from about 7:57 - 9:09, in clips of me playing it, which is when I'm discussing how the game both looks & sounds.
And if you liked those "Mars Explorers Wanted" posters that I used at the endβto show other imaginings of Martian lifeβthen good news! Because those posters belong to NASA, they are free to download, reprint, and reuse (with some limitations, see their info). You can find high-res images on their website: https://mars.nasa.gov/multimedia/resources/mars-posters-explorers-wanted/
Similarly, the background that I used behind the posters is also a NASA image. That's an actual photo of Marsβalbeit with the saturation and contrast dialed up when used here, to make it look more red in the background. If you want to see and/or download the original image, then that's at: https://mars.nasa.gov/resources/25904/mastcam-z-views-santa-cruz-on-mars/
