Played using the brand new MiSTer FPGA Super Game Boy FPGA core set to the Super Gameboy 2 speed setting. The Super Gameboy 2 is more accurate than the original Super Gameboy due to on an board oscillator whereas the original Super Gameboy ran at whatever speed of the system it was plugged in to.
As far the game itself, it's definitely one of the easier Contra games. It is pretty short but it's a great little run 'n gun while it lasts. I think this is the first Contra game to introduce the H weapon - hunter, heat-seeking, homing, whatever you want to refer to it as...it's great! The fire weapon is definitely stronger and can level bosses more quickly in a lot of cases, if you want to play for speed. For some strange reason the series stalwart spread weapon has 2 levels of power, unlike any other weapon in the game. The second level increases the spread to 5 bullets from 3 and fires quicker, as well.
I definitely recommend checking this one out, it gets 2 (sore Nintendo dpad-abused) thumbs up from me.
