280VR is still looking for it's Animal Crossing VR or Stardew Valley VR game, something that players can sink hundreds of hours into just farming, relaxing, creating & exploring. A top tier VR farming simulator / adventure game is still hard to come by but Garden of The Sea, a puzzle packed adventure farming game with tonnes of charm, is currently building something special in its early access PC VR release. I hopped into Garden of the Sea VR looking for a relaxing escape and ended up discovering one of the best family friendly VR games I've played to date (and also one of the most relaxing VR games I've had the pleasure of experiencing too). Check out this Garden of the Sea gameplay / Garden of the Sea VR gameplay & decide for yourselves whether this could be the Animal Crossing VR / Stardew Valley VR that the virtual reality scene is looking for.
Welcome to your own magical island, players in Garden of the Sea are set loose straight away to interact and explore with their own personal island paradise with very little in the way of tutorials. The game shows you how to tackle tasks and progress the game through the use of cute diagrams and pictures dotted around, a sense of discovery is definitely encouraged here but I would say a more conventional tutorial would go a long way to helping new players understand the mechanics when first starting out (it took me the best part of an hour to figure out I had an inventory). If you're after a VR farming sim / casual VR farming game then Garden of the Sea has you covered, it doesn't punish you for not being precise and lets you plant crops wherever you see fit, with the core gameplay loop being plant, grow, harvest and sell/craft. Crops you grow can be exchanged for goods at the local shop or can be used to further your story progression on your island, contribute crops to finish quests such as fixing the bridge or building a home from some of the islands cute but bizarre creatures. You can also sail the seas for neighbouring islands, each with different flora and fauna to discover, harvest and bring back to your own paradise.
The core gameplay loop is simply but there is enougn charm and promise to make this VR farm sim / VR farming game worth keeping an eye on, for families looking for the best family friendly VR games Garden of the Sea should be high on the list of things to check out. For those wanting a Stardew Valley VR or Animal Crossing VR, this truly feels like a step in the right direction!
