Gears 5 is a third person shooter, which was released on September 10th 2019. In Gears 5 , the player follows Kait Diaz, a female protagonist, living in a world where humanity is on the brink of extinction from Swarm Drones and other threats.
The concept of the game has been around for 10 years, with it originally being called "Horde 3," previewed at X10 in 2010. Originally slated to be released during Fall 2012, the project was cancelled by Microsoft Studios after they shuttered their internal Vancouver studio responsible for developing Gears Of War: Exile. However, Rod Fergusson announced that he had acquired the rights for this franchise along with The Coalition & Microsoft Studios in January 2019 and would return as head of development for The Coalition after spending 4 years working on Gears Of War 4 at studio The Coalition. In February 2019, Fergusson announced that the Gears franchise would be back with a brand new installment in the series releasing on September 10th 2019, being called Gears 5 and Gears Tactics and in May 2019, they announced that A new wave-based PvE mode called "Escape," would also accompany the release of Gears 5 .
There was a lot of hype for this game. It had been in development hell for over 7 years and we all wanted to see if it delivered or not. Fortunately, when i got my hands on it I found it worth the wait and more! It's vastly different from previous games but still maintains some old elements such as motion (active reload). Characters are very well animated, the story is very good and one of the best in the series.
The game has amazing graphics. Even when you zoom in close up on to an enemy or wall, everything is detailed right down to blood splatter patterns on your weapon. Graphics are not bad even when zooming out too, which means that if you're playing with a higher end TV then it looks really great. It also runs smoothly at 4k 60fps (PC requirements for this can be seen in the Steam store). I would strongly recommend getting a gaming laptop for this game though due to its high demand in terms of graphics power, especially if you want to play in 4k resolution because you need 2 GTX 1080 TI graphics cards which are very expensive. The character models are especially impressive, as you can see scars on their skin and other subtle details.
Gears 5 does not have any DLC or expansion packs planned, but will be receiving updates to the game for future support. The map editor will also return in this installment after it was removed from Gears Of War 4 . There is no Battle Royale mode either purely because they wanted to focus more on the single-player campaign this time around. Forge Mode also makes a reappearance in Gears 5 , with new assets for players to experiment with. Finally, Horde Mode will receive an update allowing players to pay for cosmetic items using credits earned within the game itself rather than using real money like its predecessors. Currently there are no plans for any new Gears games slated in the future, mainly due to Rod Fergusson wanting to focus on other projects like The Last Night , but he has said that after all of this hype dies down more people may come back and support the game.
