Game Review for A game called Control

As a person who is interested in spy movies and games, I was very excited to try out Control. The idea of controlling objects as powerful as powerful as weapons has always been an interesting concept for me. I also have a background in physics which made the topics mentioned even more exciting. Even though this game had a lot going for it that would interest me personally, there were some important ideas that brought down the quality of the game overall.

The first thing I noticed about this game was good graphics and presentation style. It reminded me of the popular video game series Bioshock Infinite with its slightly realistic yet determined artwork style. When I saw this, I was hoping that it wouldn't be too difficult or frustrating to play because if so, I would not enjoy the game. Fortunately, it was not too difficult to play but there are some aspects of being able to control objects that makes it difficult despite having a good concept.

The story behind this game is an important part that adds interest and charisma to this game yet it does not change anything in terms of what I expect from a video game. The idea of making weapons fly around is very interesting yet the way you have them being controlled still makes it difficult because controlling them can be frustrating at times. It's like trying to run fast with shoes on while moving your legs manually back and forth rather than running naturally. Despite all these problems, I still find myself enjoying the experience of playing through this game even though there are definitely some things I would change.

Control is a 3rd person shooter set in a world with a supernatural element. It is the story of Jesse Faden, a young woman who inherits an old building in Boston known as The Oldest House. When she enters it, she learns that there are objects within the house called "artifacts" that have supernatural powers. She has to fight her way through these strange enemies in order to find out more about who she is and where she came from.

Upon starting the game, I found myself intrigued by the gameplay style especially when using some of the artifacts. There were many times where I would be shooting at different targets while summoning weapons with my mind that had very good effects on defeating most foes.

The environments are very good looking with an artistic style that effectively gives off the feeling of being in a strange place. I noticed this art style from games such as Bioshock which makes sense for this game because at its core, they seem rather similar even though Bioshock is mainly about zombies while Control is much more focused on supernatural elements.

Control has some great ideas for gameplay although there are some problems that make it feel too difficult or frustrating to play through despite its interesting plotline. Overall it is an enjoyable game with good elements of action and adventure. It is certainly worth a playthrough for many fans of the shooter genre.
