This game has a rich movelist, and as such, quite a many fast movement tactics. Here's a comparison of them... which is the fastest of them all?

I proceed character by character. First normal running and rolling, two basic movement styles that are always available. Then stuff that you can do with attacks, tied to the characters' weapons. Since you get weapons gradually (and there is no NG+ in this game), not all movement styles are doable from the start of the game for example.

The timing starts from room fade-in to hitting the back wall of the corridor. This was the best testing area I found in such a short notice, and it's not optimal. Due to that, and other reasons too, the results of these tests should be taken with a grain of salt... there will be inaccuracies if you look close enough.

Yoshitsune:
1. Normal running. 6.33 seconds.
2. Rolling. 5.3~ seconds.
3. Hizamaru "Gale" spamming. 7.81 seconds.
4. Bishamon "Shattering Thrust" spamming. 5.3 - 5.5 seconds.
5. Bishamon "Soaring Dragon" spamming. 6.53 seconds.
6. Hachiman "Kamaitachi" spamming. 4.42 seconds.
7. "Heaven Dance" + roll spamming. 6.93 seconds.
8. Wall running antics... incomparable.

Notes:

2. At the very start of the game, Yoshitsune's rolling will be the fastest way to get to places.

4. You can spam this attack faster using a certain tactic. First do basic triangle attack once. Then start holding block while starting to spam triangle. This way you do the basic triangle attack again and again, but faster than normal.

6. This is the superior movement style in the game, really easy to do, and it gives you the fastest speed. And it only turns more effective if you do it down stairs or other elevation differences. The bad part is that you need the 3rd sword, Hachiman, to perform it.

7. Heaven Dance gives you a higher speed than normal running, but its cooldown and difficult maneuverability make it a pretty bad candidate for speed movement.

8. Wall running is pretty quick. It might be overall be faster than rolling, but you'd need a better testing location to make sure.

Benkei:
1. Running. 6.63 sec.
2. Evading. 6.23 sec.
3. Tendertusk "Avalanche" + evade spamming. 6.4~ sec.

Notes:

1. It's official... Benkei is slow.

2. Guess whenever you are forced to use Benkei, evade everywhere instead of running.

3. Sort of a novelty movement style, but hey, it seems to be faster than normal running.

Shizuka:
1. Running. 6.28 sec.
2. Evading. 6.18 sec.
3. "Primrose" + evade spamming. 4.8 - 5.0 sec.
4. "Primrose" cancelled with weapon switch spamming v1. 5.37 sec.
5. "Primrose" cancelled with weapon switch spamming v2. 4.52 sec.

Notes:

1. It looks like Shizuka has the fastest running speed in the game?

3. Once Shizuka joins the party, she brings this impressive fast movement style with her. Doable with her starting weapon, she beats Yoshitsune early on in speed quite easily.

4. I guess having to stop for a moment in between the attacks drags the average speed down quite a lot. The technique is not easy, though; with more practice it could be done even faster. This is also doable from the start of the game.

5. An easy, efficient way to spam between two Primroses is to use Dancing Girl and Lion Kagura as your weapons. It is Shizuka's best fast movement style. However, this combination only becomes possible very late in the game...

Buson:
1. Running. 6.43 sec.
2. Evading. 4.67 sec.
3. Evading + "Cyclone Slash". 5.32 sec.
4. Evading + "Hornet". 4.67 sec.

Notes:

2. Buson has a cool, fast evade. However, you can only do it thrice in a row before there's a cooldown. The next two fast movement tactics arise from the need to do something with the evasion cooldown.

3 & 4. Unfortunately the evasion + triangle attacks only slow you down. Just evading normally is faster.

So basically, the winner is Kamaitachi spamming. But before you acquire that attack, Primrose + evade spamming should be the best.
