Getter Robo Opening 8 Bit Remix
i'd like to preface this by saying that i still hold the position that most anime of the modern time are comically gay. modern otaku culture is a fucking parasite and most "anime fans" are normal[word i cannot say on youtube, fuck you, youtube]s larping as anime fans because they saw whatever fotm bullshit people watch now. i consider myself fully removed from modern anime culture and only occasionally read/watch through old stuff that i know for a fact i would at the very least have fun with.
so, until i put out the mazinkaiser video from a few weeks ago i had only seen the original getter anime. i liked it but i always preferred mazinger z and great mazinger. however, i read the ishikawa's manga shortly after that, and wow, what a fucking great super robot series. there are a lot of differences i noticed along the way, a few things of note was that the main bad dude looming in the back for most of the run changed in the anime while consistently staying as emperor gore in the manga, and that generally all of the characters (bar michiru who actually kinda did more in the anime but nobody gives a fuck about her) are significantly more fleshed out in the manga. the getter team is so fucking well done in the manga. they all still kinda have their manga personalities in the anime but are really generally dumbed down. musashi is really the only one that was adapted well for the anime but ryoma and hayato, on the other hand, got fucking neutered - ryoma especially. to explain the story of getter in the easiest and fastest way possible, and without spoiling character stuff and major plot events is that the set up is basically: the dinosaur empire is awakened by getter rays, and this dr saotome fellow has this big ol robot with three independant machines that can combine and change in to three different robots. so he gets three buttfuck insane guys to pilot each unit and fight the dinosaur empire.
it's really good, probably second to, if not better than grendizer for the most well written super robot plots of the ones that i have digested. is the rest of the original getter robo saga as good as this was? cause i fuckin' loved this. it's amazing how slept on a lot of the series generally from the 70's are. it seems today that all you see are queers writing off 70s anime/manga completely and starting at off gundam 0079, in the event that they even care enough to go farther back in the first place. i don't mind that the cool shit like this isn't big, though. too many series that i previously enjoyed became total cancer following it getting popular in the west cough cough jojo cough cough and i would hate to see that happen again. when fist of the north star started getting official translations from viz like 2 years ago i was quite happy to finally have a means to get it in physical form in a non-moon-rune language but terrified that it would lead to it getting big. one of the casual fotm watching anime fans i knew at the time told me he got the first volume when it came out and "hated it because it was boring" and i was so relieved. old anime is unironically a filter for a surprising amount of "anime fans" because everything for them is either "too boring/slow/has bad art/too violent" so honestly i'm perfectly fine with that type not ruining such great series. casual anime fans don't even like fucking dragon ball anymore, at least from the ones i've seen on the internet and talked to. dragon ball is undeniably kino of the highest degree, and even removed from my lifelong attatchment to it, it still really does hold up. it's like it got so popular in the west that it went back to being unpopular in favor of people latching on to fotm garbage. i dunno, anime is dead in pretty much exactly the same way that video games are, at this point. the "culture" is dead in the ground and new releases aren't good, but despite this the industry keeps growing and growing and shows no signs of slowing down.
have a wonderful day, gentlemen.
