good timing considering a new grendizer adaptation was announced a couple days ago, eh? last i had the chance to talk about super robot as a genre was a piss long time ago, and i hadn't (and still haven't) seen any getter media besides the original show. BUT let me tell you what my boy i love me some mazinger and mazinger-adjacent super robots. my favorite out of the original three shows that take place in (roughly? still dunno how canon grendizer is) the original canon is great mazinger, because i thought it had the best overall execution of characters and mecha design and all that jazz. i also found tetsuya a lot more enjoyable as a character when compared to koji in mazinger z. the main draw to any given piece of super robot media for me is how cool i think the main robot designs are, and that's honestly half of the reason it took me so long to see what grendizer had to offer because i fucking hated that design for a while. it felt a lot less refined and sleek when compared to the other previous designs. it made up for it though, grendizer was pretty cool. the story was cool and i had fun with it. the mazinkaiser ova just knocked everything out of the park for me and is probably my favorite piece of super robot media i've ever seen. fire wars is fucking unreasonably good for an opening theme so much so that i actually transcribed the whole thing a while ago but just never uploaded it for some reason. i have a hard time deciding which theme that has been used for kaiser is my favorite because there are a few of them that can count. the one you're listening to right now, fire wars, theme of mazinkaiser, and the skl theme that i don't know because i haven't seen skl. of course fire wars is outstanding because it was sung by hironobu kageyama, one of my favorite anisong singers second to akira kushida and ichiro mizuki (rip) who sang the vocal version of this kaiser theme along with theme of mazinkaiser. super robot wars as a game series is perfectly fine, pretty cool, pretty good. they're basically tactics games with rpg elements and cinematics that get way cooler as the series goes on. you could very easily play a srw game without having ever played one previously or having seen any of the series featured. if you're a fair-skinned hyperborean soldier, i'm sure you'd have seen or at least heard of at least one of the series featured in srw. if you have huge muscles and are straight as fuck then you have a selection of different mazin mecha in pretty much every game available and if you're skinny and gay and submissive then you have evangelion in srw v. there is quite literally everything inbetween these in every game. i haven't played every srw but alpha gaiden has fucking xabungle rep which is crazy considering it is more or less the black sheep of creations by yoshiyuki tomino, the gundam guy. if nothing else, the translated version of srw alpha gaiden serves to add to the very short list of playstation 1 games that are actually good (ps1 sucks donkey dick and this quite literally cannot be disproven everything i say is rooted pure truth and fact BITCH sorry that was rude but it is true here is a list of every good ps1 game that i could think of while talking with my good buddy yesterday about how shit the ps1 was)

- ff7 (people only like 8 to be contrarian, lol, 7 is the best one on ps1 but not the best ff, that goes to 5 which i have now played in full. it really is great)

simple as. maybe i'm just a jackass who hates most video games but i really am hard pressed to think of more ps1 games that are actually that good. still has more good games than n64, though, lol. i'm not even a snoy but i will openly admit that the n64 is carried by a few stellar titles. the dreamcast utterly mogs both in terms of library and the amount of games in said library that very much so stand the test of time. i know people like to lump in ps2 and gc with dreamcast and in all honesty, it was to an extent, but if it came out internationally in '97 or '98 it could have had a lot more time to properly get in there with the ps1 and n64. still doesn't change the fact that the dreamcast was the best of what is often regarded as the first proper generation of 3d gaming. segachads never ever stop winning.
