Getting the Steam Overlay to work (Star Wars Battlefront II - EGS Version)

If you're like me and firstly, got the game free on Epic and secondly, want to get the Steam Overlay to work in this game for screenshots, web browsing etc then you may have noticed that it isn't that easy to accomplish by just adding Battlefront II as Non-Steam Game to your Steam Library.

Even using OSOL on it's own isn't enough.

Luckily I found a way to make it happen. This method also supports mods.

By using Frosty Mod Manager in combination with OSOL, you can launch the game with the Steam Overlay enabled which wouldn't be possible with just launching OSOL.

For this Frosty Mod Manager must be installed and the DataPathFix must be activated to make launching from the Mod Manager possible.

Follow these instructions to get it to work.

Keep in mind that this method isn't entirely flawless. Even when doing everything right, the Steam Overlay may not show up. Restarting Steam or your PC may be a good way to workaround it.

Also it is highly recommended to disable EA's Overlay ingame. It seems to mostly interfere with Steam's Overlay using this method and at some point it even crashed my game in the loading screen.

This may render you unable to accept game invites(unless you get it working) but you can still invite other people from the ingame social-hub.
