Ages ago, an ancient race, the Cobra-La, ruled the Earth using technology of living snake and insect tissue, but the Ice Age destroyed their civilization. Forced to retreat to a cavern beneath the Himalayas, the Cobra-La plotted their return.

But as the ice thawed, humanity developed technology and greatly outnumbered Cobra-La. To overthrow humanity, Cobra-La's leader Golobulus enlisted his scientists to develop mutating spores. Unfortunately, it backfired, mutating one scientist's face with eight new eyes, but Golobulus noticed the scientist's ruthless nature and sent him to destroy humanity as Cobra Commander.

Creating the terrorist organization, Cobra, the Commander gathered an army with powerful allies like Destro, the Baroness, Zartan, and Doctor Mindbender. To fight Cobra, Colonel Clayton "Hawk" Abernathy, founded America's special missions force, codename "G.I. Joe". But with Hawk buried in paperwork in Washington, Sergeant Conrad "Duke" Hauser leads the Joes and bravely gets captured whenever plots are too thin.

As the Joes continually thwart Cobra Commander's schemes to carve his face in the moon, the Cobra-La and his villainous allies grow impatient. If the Joes hope to stop Cobra for good, they'll need to invent ridiculous vehicles, learn Cobra's secret origin and never jump their bikes over downed power lines. Because knowing is half the battle!
