Also designed by Isaac himself, Jaws of the Lion seeks to keep the best parts of Gloomhaven, while making the experience easier for newcomers to get into. Gloomhaven itself is the number one game of all time on Board Game Geek, boasting the popular dungeon crawler theme, as players assume a class, grab their friends, and jump into dungeons while leveling up and getting more and more gear. But what really sets Gloomhaven apart from many dungeon crawlers is the amazing combat system, where players will pick 2 cards from their diminishing hand every turn, causing players to be careful in managing their resources and working together. And while Jaws of the Lion doesn’t have a scope that is as big as Gloomhaven, with only 4 classes (with cool unlockables though!) and a smaller map, its 25 scenario-sized book certainly packs a punch in terms of length.
