Had to test it in this one too. Going to menu an instant before the upgrade message appears allows you to take the upgrade with you. Could be an useful combat tactic, since the upgrade acts like a free health/magic/fire refill that you can activate at any time, at the expense of some lost visibility and not being able to use X before you want the refill.

There's also an additional glitch if you manage to die during an upgrade. The status bar becomes slightly swollen after restarting (sadly it's not anything like the "status bar for the visually impaired" from PSP CoO) and you get this annoying audio loop to play in the background. But it isn't nearly as annoying as on PSP CoO as the loop quiets down if you quit and reload. Should test this on PS3 CoO to see if it works the same way.

Sadly, it looks like there's no air climbing in GoS...
