We're making a few new videos as we re-introduce our SNES game videos, and this is one of them.

Gokinjo Boukentai (also spelled Gokinjo Bouken Tai) is one of the Priciest SFC games I currently own, going anywhere from $50-$100 for a complete copy, but here's the real question: Is it any good? Well, the game has garnered a very small underground following due to its modern day setting, eccentric characters, twisted enemies and offbeat humor that revolves around children, giving off a bit of an "Earthbound" aesthetic. The main character even has a cat (Yuzu) that acts similarly to Ness' dog, King. The music is usually unexpectedly awesome.

Deep down, the game is very different in design (from Earthbound), but is a refreshing change from all the strictly fantasy-themed RPGs, though it is somewhat basic. I referred to the game on my website as being "two parts Earthbound and one part Paladin's Quest (Lennus) with a dash of originality and a little girl protagonist". One of the people involved with the game was Yosuke Kuroda, noted for such things as his work on Trigun and Excel Saga.

The game revolves around an adorable elementary school student known as Mana, a largely silent protagonist, who goes on expeditious adventures as a result of her child-like curiosity and burning spirit. She starts off just going to school like any other kid, but her life changes when she can see and hear "God" (only very special people can see "God", which leads some to believe she is strange or crazy), who warns her that her world is changing. She, along with her friends, decide to investigate their city, forming what they call the "Neighborhood Adventure Group". I could spoil the end, but it's surprisingly a little odd.

The game is comprised of basic sim elements (training stats Mon-Sat) and questing (on Sundays) as the game is broken up into weeks. There are various quests that can only be triggered if Mana's stats and personality are adequate enough, which presents the game with some replayability. Battles are largely conventional. You can use up to three characters (plus Yuzu, who acts randomly) and they can use basic attacks and items, as well as specials. Specials consume HP (there is no MP) and are very powerful. You can also alter character parameters depending on characters+formation.

This video just shows some things in the game with advanced gameplay. Enjoy.
