Although most of his big hits were a decade before I was born, I have fond memories associated with his music. I especially love Sundown and If You Could Read My Mind, which I always stop to listen to when I come across them.
It's strange how music can bring back such vivid memories. One for me is listening to old Art Bell shows like Coast to Coast AM. He used Gordon Lightfoot songs as bumper music; basically intros when coming back from commercials. One episode, Art actually had Gordon Lightfoot on as a guest, which was really a great interview. Anyhow, thoughts like this remind me of good times. And hearing Gordon Lightfoot's music recalls the same type of positive, comfortable feeling. Just a sense of being in a good place.
I felt compelled to pay tribute to the man the best way I know how, which is through a portrait. I don't usually paint much during the week, mostly just due to time constraints. Not an exact likeness, particularly around the mouth and mustache area. But hopefully I got the general sense of him. Anyhow, thanks for the great music - rest in peace, Gordon Lightfoot.
