More practice with dark colors, oil on paper. Continuing on with the major themes I want to improve on: Subtle contrast differences, dark backgrounds, freehand portraits, and of course the usual "getting features right" aspects. This is my 73th painting since I started in October 2022, which seems like a lot...but also somehow doesn't.

It's a lot because I can't keep up with sharing them all, especially via my blog (which is 30-40 paintings behind). But I still feel like a complete novice, guessing my way through. Logically it makes sense - I think it took maybe 150 or so drawings before I felt really confident aith colored pencils. So going into this, I figured a similar number, or perhaps higher, would be needed for painting confidence (not mastery, to be clear - just confidence). I can definitely see tangible results though, which is exciting. So, it's a lot, but also still in a relative sense, not a lot.

I'll keep rolling though, mostly because this is so fun. Painting is really something I could do all day if time would allow. I do wonder where my interests will go over the next few months. Will I still be fascinated by dark backgrounds? Who knows!
