3Well, this is a great one! I love it! But compared to Moon Dancer that got released close with this game, I prefer Moon Dancer.
The game's main marketing gimmick is it has the most powerful weapon in shmup history: Sun Blade. That is actually... debatable, but all things considered, mainly its rechargeable nature, aimable, bullet-cancelling, great DPS, piercing, can be scattered for more defensive purposes, long duration and being basically usable infinitely, the marketing team has a point! That also is the game's weakness, though. This is a very easy game to survive.
You can shoot and use the Sun Blade. It can be aimed, holding the laser button will shoot the Sun Blade. To upgrade it but will drain your Life faster, hold both the laser and shot button. Hold laser and special button to use he scattering Rising Sun Blade? Very useful to clear out surrounding bullets.
The game's marketing is cheeky with the fact the weapon is so powerful the game doesn't need lives. The game's true nature is the game is a resource manager. Life is both your HP and your ammo for the Sun Blade. Yes, the Sun Blade sacrifices HP. The game is far kinder than that, actually. The Life recharges very quickly when you don't use the Sun Blade. Getting hit by bullets, while you don't have any i-frames, it must be noted, you're quite durable and only chips some of your Life. You'll likely recover to full Life when you've retreated long enough. Then there is the Auto-Bomb that will be deployed to let you survive at 1 Life. You can recover your Auto-Bomb back by recovering your Life back to 100%. See how easy it is?
Being easy isn't necessarily a bad thing, though. In fact, I'd argue this is the game's strength! This game is very easy to recommend to beginners and boy, this game is very, very pretty! The stage design variety is great in both spectacle and arrangements. Very cool camera direction too while not being obstructive like in Eschatos! To compensate the very low survival difficulty, the scoring system is on the deep side. If you want to sink your teeth further, try to chase the high score! No leaderboards yet, though.
Overall this game is best considered as the best stress reliever around. If you're in mood for therapy after consecutive heart breaks, give this game a go!
