Granny's Seafood Gumbo recipe tutorial for Legend of the Crystal Skull
Gumbo. Does this really need an intro to get our attention and make us want to try making it? We think not.
Granny's Seafood Gumbo
4 Tbsp Butter (not margarine)
¼ cup Flour
1 small Yellow Onion, diced
1 Red Bell Pepper, diced
2 stalks Celery, diced
3-4 cloves Garlic, minced
12 oz. Andouille Sausage, sliced
1 Tbsp Cajun Seasoning
1-2 Bay Leaves
1 15 oz. can Roasted Diced Tomatoes
1 can Kidney Beans, drained
2 cups Chicken Broth
½ lb. Shrimp
Cooked Rice
Green Onions, sliced
Hot Sauce
Melt the butter over medium-low heat and add flour. Whisk constantly until the mixture turns a dark caramel to milk chocolate color. Add yellow onion,
pepper, and celery and cook until vegetables soften. Add garlic and cook for another minute or two. Add sausage, cajun seasoning, bay leaves, tomatoes,
beans, and broth and bring to a boil. Add salt and pepper as needed. Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, for an hour or more, until mixture has thickened. Add shrimp and cook for another 10 minutes, until shrimp is fully cooked. Serve over rice, garnished with green onions, and with hot sauce on the side.
