This video is an interpretation of Griffith's relationship to Guts in the first half of the Berserk anime (1997). It's the first of a short series on the characters of Berserk.

This video discusses a number of questions about how Griffith felt about Guts: whether Griffith loved Guts, how we know that Griffith loved Guts, the way in which Griffith expresses his love, the meaning of that love, and how it differs from Griffith's relationship to Casca and rest the Band of the Hawk. I also identify the moment when Griffith's attitude toward Guts began to sour.

One of the big problems that makes it hard to interpret Griffith's relationship to Guts is that Griffith very often refuses to say what he thinks, and he conceals his inner thoughts and desires. And a big part of this video is about figuring out how we can get past these obstacles that Griffith sets up in his efforts to hide his feelings for Guts. I rely on a long speech from Casca, where she describes her personal history with Griffith, and tells Guts a little bit about how she interprets Guts' relationship to Griffith. I use that speech as a kind of key.
