Chainsaw Man: How Meowy Taught Power the Meaning of Love || Essay Series
This video is part of an essay series on Chainsaw Man. Here I explain the character of Power.
Power is a fiend whose defining characteristic, at least as Makima describes it, is that she has a unique kind of intelligence or rationality that makes it possible for her to integrate peaceably into human society. This is why Makima spared Power's life when the two first met: Makima's role as a devil hunter is normally to kill all fiends and devils, but that's really only because fiends and devils kill all humans. Power could be rendered docile through rational discussion; and so Makima decided to use Power as an agent at Public Safety.
But have you ever asked *why* Power is so peaceful compared to other fiends, and *why* Power can be reasoned with through intelligent discussion? That's the question that I answer in this video. And my theory is that Power became docile through the power of love: it was Power's love of her pet cat Meowy that taught her the skills she needed to integrate into society and hence to be spared by Makima.
