Chainsaw Man: How Himeno Showed Her Love to Aki Hayakawa || Essay Series
18This video is part of an essay series on Chainsaw Man. Here I explain Himeno's relationship to Aki Hayakawa.
I tackle the topic of Himeno's relationship to Aki Hayakawa by explaining a reoccurring motif in the scenes that they have together. Himeno consistently pressures Aki to pick up the habit of sm*king during their early time together. This is something that Himeno never does with anyone else, which raises the question: Why does Himeno want Aki to pick up the habit with so badly? That's the question I answer in this video?
My answer is that it's an expression both of Himeno's love and of Himeno's desire to save Aki from dying to the Gun Devil. Aki originally refused to sm*k* because he was afraid that it would rot his bones and compromise his ability to hunt the Gun Devil. So his refusal furthermore symbolized the way in which hunting the Gun Devil was more important than Himeno. And that was unacceptable to Himeno; it's the reason why she wouldn't take no for an answer.
