GTX 1060 vs RX 480 Frame Time Analysis - Tom Clancy's The Division DX11 & DX12 [BENCHMARK]
In our first dGPU analysis we test the performance of Tom Clancy’s The Division with both DX11 and DX12 renders. Massive Entertainment created a stunning looking open-world RPG shooter, the very latest patch even enabled DX12 rendering for the game.
With the game's built-in benchmark we compare two really popular GPUs, AMD's RX 480 8GB and NVIDIA's GTX 1060 6GB. DirectX 12 provides a more efficient low-level access to the hardware, with the new API developers can reduce CPU power consumption, and use multiple cores to balance the workload of the rendering tasks. Advanced features like asynchronous compute enables parallel execution of compute and graphics tasks that leads to improved performance and better GPU utilization as well.
Judging by the final results - 1080p and ultra preset was used -, only the RX 480 is capable of extracting extra performance from the DX12 option. Moreover, the RX 480 delivers better minimum frame time results as well.
