Let's Install Windows ME in a VM!
69Windows Millennium Edition (ME) is a fascinating piece of Operating System history because it is the final OS Microsoft produced using ms-dos as the foundation and because it is nearly universally hated.
All operating systems in the Windows 9x (Windows 95, Windows 98, etc) family were based on a MSDOS core, unlike Windows 2000 and above which is based on Windows NT (New Technology).
The install process for Windows ME is fairly standard for the Windows 9x family. After Windows 2000, Microsoft stripped much of the configuration out of the install.
Installing Windows ME is long but not arduous. Lots of drivers have to be installed and at the time compression and extraction methods weren't as good as they are today.
