Half-Life 2 Mod: Black Mesa: Source
12A full-on remake of Half-Life 1 originally made as a Half-Life 2 mod by the Crowbar Collective. The game was made as a response to Half-Life Source, as the game mostly used the same assets and gameplay from the original Half-Life, despite the little improvements used by the Source engine. This time, the game comes with all-new graphics and sounds, with the characters and weapons being completely redesigned as well as improved level design. Now it's much more than what Counter-Strike Source did.
This is the original mod version of the game, where I think the graphics were already great enough. While I've heard people call this game a beta, the game looks like in a (completely) finished state. All chapters taking place in Black Mesa are playable. Eventually the game would be approved by Valve for a commercial release, and Black Mesa got a Steam release as a paid title in early access, with more improvements and additions as well as multiplayer support. The Xen levels were also in the making, and were the most difficult levels to make. Now Xen looks more beautiful and push Source even more to its limits. Eventually the game was fully released in 2020, with Black Mesa: Definitive Edition releasing later.
By the way, I'm still waiting for Black Mesa But The Plot is Slightly Different.
