This was just a little experiment in modding Halo 3 on PC. I replaced some of the weapon sounds with the Field Recordings 343i made to promote Halo: Infinite.

I don't know why, but the weapon audio recordings in these videos sounded much better than what we actually got in-game. I just ported them as-is with no real EQ, just some slight volume-matching and trimming. The Dark Souls Sound Inserter tool requires sounds to be the exact same length unless you hex edit them. It definitely makes the Assault Rifle sound worse; it's meant to have a nice tail-off like the Battle Rifle replacement has. I also concede that I should've added pitch variation so they'd sound less "stock" when fired rapidly.

While I do like these audio clips on their own, they sound too generic and out-of-place in Halo. They'd sound better in a sim shooter. Granted, these were probably just elements that were meant to be mixed with more fantastic layers like sci-fi whines and cannon booms. I merely wanted to actually hear these recordings used in a game.

There are some other recordings that could be used in-game, like a Mini-Uzi that could fill in for the SMG (which has odd looping shenanigans) as well as a Browning M2 recorded in an urban environment that could be used for the Warthog machine gun. The explosion sounds in these videos were also really neat. I just don't see myself finishing this project after how this turned out, but I figured it was worth a demonstration for anyone curious on Youtube.
