I had no clue about anything Harry Potter before going into this and I still feel like I have no clue about anything Harry Potter after playing this. The game does an abysmal job conveying the story, but I think they assume the player has previous knowledge. The gameplay is super simple. You get a spell you solve some simple puzzles and move on to the next thing. You collect jelly beans to purchase cards and some upgrades. There are collectible cards scattered around Hogwarts you can pick up which serve as life upgrades for Harry. You can do some side stuff. Like a few mini games that seem to focus on abuse of some lesser creatures, like tossing them in to lakes or off roofs. It's cruel but also disturbingly funny. You can also broom race some kids through rings. All of the prizes are cards. There even is a silly scavenger hunt. You even get to "play" Quidditch, which amounts to flying through rings and then playing a QTE of sorts. The game is not great control wise. It's super clunky and charging your magic takes forever. It just doesn't feel good. The final boss fight is pretty cool. Battling a giant snake is a ton of fun though. This game wasn't awful, but it is far from good. This is certainly the definition of mediocrity. I am sure if you enjoyed the books and movies this game could be really cool. Enjoy my blind playthrough.
