Hiachi's Request Scuffed Speedrun - The Mimic
A scuffed speedrun of the rerun event Hiachi's Request. I would've saved a few minutes hadn't I made the mistakes I did in this video: the first was forgetting the third soul in the left room during the first phase and having to go back. Second was at 7:32 in the video (7:21 for the speedrun time); I should have collected the soul by the fallen tree and entered the throne room right after the Shinigami exited it. Furthermore, at 8:18 in the video (8:07 for the speedrun time), I had a chance to go in the throne room but did not take it because I was not yet aware of Shiniachi's whereabouts in her cycle. In the throne room, after collecting the soul at 9:16 (9:05), I should have made a run for the pillar where I first hid so I would be closer to the next orb. Finally at 10:33 (10:22), instead of going to the white lantern, I should've immediately entered the right room. I even had an opportunity after collecting the soul at 10:47 (10:36), but I also let that slip.
Well, that's a lot of mistakes. I lost opportunities by playing it a bit too safe when that's less of a priority in a speedrun. When I finished this speedrun, I felt satisfied at this 14 minute run and decided to call it a day... but I regretted it when I watched the video of it on the next day. I wanted to try again but there was little time remaining and I couldn't be bothered to quickly retry it before heading to sleep. Now I really regret it... but oh well. At least it's under 15 minutes.
I attempted multiple speedruns of this and the experience wasn't very nice, to say the least. The biggest issue for me was that the Shinigami had a cycle time of ~41 seconds (it took 41 seconds for it to make an entire lap in its path) and Shiniachi had a cycle time of ~42 seconds. The difference in cycle times being only ~1 second meant that their cycles would rarely synchronise. This means that while opportunities to make a move would last longer, it would also take a long time to find one of these opportunities. If I had avoided the mistakes mentioned, I could've worked my way around this issue to a somewhat moderate degree.
The thumbnail kind of implies that I'm happy with this speedrun. As you would have guessed given what I've said above, I'm very disappointed, but relieved that it wasn't worse. In my first ever attempt of this event, it took me 70 minutes to get it right first try, solo - I wanted to succeed on the first attempt, so I played it extra safe. By the way, I didn't get to participate in Hiachi's Request the first time it was released.
Anyways, I hope you'll look forward to more The Mimic content in this channel. I'm planning to try speedrunning the entirety of Book 1 in a single sitting, so stay tuned for that!
