Honestly it feels like enjoying the game is the wrong move. Flying large behemoths that can destroy anything without a sweat, seems to be an evonomy issue. Because of fuel economy and how dangerous the combat is, there are really only a handful of options.

1. Use mostly lightning or otherwise fast moving ship. Can take down most small to medium ships and it's either you blow to smithereens or you dodge everything and don't take damage.
2. Use medium ships to take down medium to large ships, can take a little bit of damage, but you're also slow as shit. So prepare flares(that don't work that well) and hope that you luck out on hitting the cabin. Still on the fence with AP rounds, seems like they don't work that good. Or am I missing something? Range is awful and the penetration ability isn't that good.
3. Use massive ships, take lots of damage and spend all of your money on repairs.

So it's basically use lightning and once the lineup is too tough, use a medium ship(gladiator in this case, as seems like the best one) and prepare to pay a large chunk of your money on repairs. Keep everything but the tankers and lightning hidden, once you really need them.

Money is just that tight. If there was no skill based combat section, then the act of optimizing money bleeding, by choosing what to use when, would be a good mechanic. Here though where it's constantly 3 v 1, enemy has unlimited supplies and losing 1 ship will cost you more then over taking 4 cities(cuz fuel costs thousands), it doesn't quite click. I guess I have to take cities in close proximity, so as not to overly thin my frontline. Also keeping most of the heavy guns on standby near desert. So when I do find myself facing off another strike group, then I can prepare by calling the big guns in the desert.

Surprisingly that one location with 2 traders stack was amazing, + 100k almost. Traders really are the go to for money. But only if you reset enough so that you don't have to repair that much.

That -1 to whole fleet moral is awful. But then again, there's nothing else to incentivize you to waste time protecting your crew, while all the good cargo goes up in flames.

Save scumming feels so awful. The whole game is based on limited info, use your sensors to track enemy and try to mitigate them knowing your position. But then again, any big mistake I make, will have an effect for the next 5-6 cities I take, so save scumming it is. Got to use the 1 to 1 buy sell conversion to my advantage. Sucks that installing stuff costs as much as the stuff itself, so not a lot of on the fly customization, apart from putting new planes, new missiles and upgrading gun caliber.

But yeah seems like on easy taking on strike groups is manageable. Lightnings and gladiators seem to be the ones to go with currently. Best bang for the buck. Will most likely continue to upgrade couple of ships to 130mm, as it seems it's a lot better at taking on medium ships. Carriers and missiles currently are just to try to mitigate strategic level movements, like enemies airplanes and cruise missiles. Too expensive and weak to use on the offensive, it seems. I like that the info cities recharge intel points, makes it possible to go and target traders. Like at the end, where there's that strike group and 4 close trader locations. But first the strike group threat, then collecting more money and then continue on taking all locations on the map. Would like another hidden city, so can park stuff without problems.

In terms of sensors, got no idea how to mitigate the Strike group just bombarding you to oblivion before you face each other. I guess it's a matter of who runs out of strategic ammo first? Luckily proxy ammo seems to be very good at countering the missiles. Airplanes kind of also, but they have a higher chance of dealing some moderate damage. I guess I could also use the electronic intelligence device and shoot from afar, but again: waste of resources. 1 planes is 2k, 1 cruise missile is 1.5k-4k if nuclear. The fight caused me repair damage of 9k, so those wasted airplanes did a lot less and costed more. Now when enemy starts using nuclear, that's when I should probably start using planes and cruise missiles, as they can destroy a group of fleets. But as long as I don't initiate nuclear war, I'm probably alright. Right?
